| Colored Pencil Explorations: The Colors of White Dates: Sat., Jan. 21, 28 (snow date: Feb. 4) Time:10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Objective: To be able to accurately capture the subtle nuances of color found in nature's range of whites by combining colored pencil and watercolor pencil. Prerequisites: Botanical Drawing I, Colored Pencil I Fee:$ 120 members; $160 non-members Location: Phipps Garden Center in Mellon Park In this course we will examine the variety of whites nature offers to us in her palette. White flowers and berries can be some of the most difficult to portray, due to the very delicate nature of their coloring, which those new to studying the various whites will often perceive as gray. Students will quickly see that using grays to tone their white subjects will only serve to deaden and destroy the inherent subtleties which are the key to their beauty. We will focus on simple color perception and identification techniques and then practice the necessary skills to be able to render these subtleties realistically. To register, call the Garden Center at (412) 441-4442 ext. 3925 or download our registration form |
